Nice! I've never seen one of those. They almost look like one of those milkfish (but smaller!).

These are triploid grass carp (sterile) that have been introduced to control weeds. Apparently they are used all over the US in park and golf course ponds.

The Asian Amure or White Amure are native to the Amure River. I just found it in the world atlas and its mouth is in the Tatar Strait in eastern Siberia at about the same latitude as Petropavlosk-Kamcatski.

So enough Geographic Carp trivia.

These fish are an awesome fly rod quarry. They are really selective, very timid, and really spooky, once you have them hooked they are much faster than Common Carp but donít run as far. They are anything but docile when you bring them in to land them. Kind of like getting a 25 lb chinook up to the bank then you touch them and they go berserk.

They sound like my kind of fish! (except for the "touch them and they go berserk" part :hihi: ) Do they jump during the fight?

That would be a riot!

"Hey guys? Please don't stand right behind me when I'm casting. And try not to hit the ball into the pond 'cause it spooks the fish." :chuckle:

Quentin, FWIW, there are decient populations of carp in the NE. They are just not well known becasue most people think of them as trash vs game fish. In particular, the upper stretch's of the Merrimac R. around nashua NH has some MONSTERS. Used to catch 3-18# carp all day long there 10-15 years back. On ULspinning gear, they were a BLAST. Some of the smaller fish would jump but most just attempted to clean your reel. ( Which they often did!) They are not speedy fish but STRONG. It's also on my 'to do " list for the fly rod.

Yep, I've been a flyrod carp addict for a few years now :D . Just haven't stumbled upon any grass carp yet. Try it, you'll like it!

Ask away! Or try a site search for "carp" and you'll find pretty much everything I know and lots of great info from other members.
