Today I went to my carp quarry in hopes of my first fly rod carp. The first one I seen I plopped the crayfish immitation (poorly tied at that) and bang, first carp. He was only about 15 inches long, but never the less, a carp. Then things got tough. I managed to catch two more, but the only flies they'd hit were small nymphs (a march brown and a scud pattern if memory serves me), and the flies had to be put right in front of them or they'd swim away. Confusing critters these carp. :)

Way to go! Carp are a great challenge on the fly rod. They've been doing their spawning routine here so I haven't been fishing for them lately.
