I am thinking about getting a two handed rod for some flyrod surf fishing here in NC. Trouble is, for the most part, the fish I will be catching will be under 10 lbs (mostly under 4 lbs really). Small blues, spanish macks, speckled trout, possibly school redfish. I see a lot of chatter abot the Atlantis that loads with a 12 wt line. How about a two handed rod for these smaller fish. I see some companies have 6 or 8 wt 2 handers...what's the story? anything good to report?
The 11ft 9/10wt has been out for months. It will take a 35ft shooting head out to 120-125ft but will still let you get spanked by schoolies.
I use it for an all-arounder when I plan to fish the beach and flats the same day.
Other makers include our sponsor Temple Fork (also a 12wt), Sage, former sponsor T&T, etc.
i think there is a line discusssion thread for this rod somewhere...

Since I am on their Pro Staff the TFO rods were the ones I was looking at. They make a 12 foot 6 wt and an 8 wt. Any experience with these lighter rods?
All my experience with TFO rods is in the context of spey casting where the 12'6"-6wt and 8wt two handed rods work very well with spey lines like the 6/7 Delta or 6/7/8 WC and the 7/8, 8/9 Delta or the 7/8/9, 8/9/10 WC respectively.
I have overhead cast the 6wt model with an 8wt single hand line and thought it worked pretty good. I think it will also cast a 9wt line well. I see no reason why one of these rods with some shooting heads or lines like Airflo's 40+ would not make a great combo for the fishing you have in mind.

Thanks for the info. Just what I was looking for. I'll probably give it a try this fall when the specks are running the beaches here.
