A feather wing spey version of John Shewey's Spawning Purple steelhead fly. Has been really productive for me on the Deschutes and last spring on the Hoh, was hoping to throw this around this weekend on the Hoh, but the water and the weather's not cooperating. Tie them up to 3/0 on the blind eye (see next frame), and 1/0's for the steel looped eyes. Tied all the way down to size 8 low-waters as well, a nice late summer, early fall pattern for me on the Deschutes. Pretty easy to tie.

Recipe:
Hook - Partridge CS1/0 or Alec Jackson spey, 5/7-3/0; Partridge low-water, 4-8
Thread - Hot orange 8/0 uni-thread
Tag - med/large silver flat tinsel
Rib - med silver oval tinsel, followed by fine silver wire to tie down the palmered hackle
Body - back 1/2 - hot orange floss, wrapped over the silver tinsel
front 1/2 - hot orange seal/seal substitute (angora for this tie)
Spey Hackle - blue-eared pheasant, died purple, sized appropriate to hook
Collar/Throat - hot orange guinea
Wing - Purple steelhead saddle or neck hackle, sized as appropriate
Eyes - Jungle cock nail
Finish - Loon's Hardhead over Griffin's thin cement (use the griffin's to lock all the parts and pieces down, Hardhead for the glossy head)

Any questions, Holler!

Same recipe as above, with the use of 30 lb charteuse (sp) back for the eye...

Been a while since I've been at the vice...

Boy, you could've fooled me! Very very nice ties indeed. And fishy too!

Nice to see you posting a fly again. Very nice adaptation and very nicely done. Your spey flies are now right up there.
