This is my first question in the forum. I just purchased Rio Versa Tip 8 wt line for use in Salt. I'd like to add a loop to the fly line between the line and the tip; and also a loop to the end of each tip (to connect tip to leader). These are the options I know of. Would someone please offer advice as to the best method? Thanks

1) Nylon braided loop secured by two nail knots covered with zap a gap.
2) Double fly line over in loop and secure by two nail knots covered with zap a gap
3) Tie a 20 lb mono line with nail knot and then tie a non-slip loop knot to the end
4) Tie a simple surgeons knot in the fly line.

I'm fairly new to fly fishing and have learned alot by reading this forum. Thanks in advance for any help.

#'s 1 and 2 have worked well for me but i like to use knot-sense on the nail knots. the stuff is strong but brittle so you can break it off if necessary and recoat.

Do a search on loops you'll find a lot of info

I would advise not using Zap-A-Gap. The fly line adjacent to the glue will crack very quickly.

Loon Knot-Sense is more flexible and does not cause the fly line to crack so readily.

Doesn't a versa-tip line already come with a loop and a set of tips with loops?

Simply tie a short section (6") of leader butt material to your tips with a nail (or needle) knot and tie a perfection loop at the end to attach your leaders.
