Cabin fever officially got the better of me last night. I stayed up until 1 am tying flies, even though I get up at 4:45 to go to work. I'm thinking that I may have to hit the Swift River this weekend to stop myself from going nuts. Has anybody been out there this winter? I've never fished it (in any season), but I've heard that you can fish it year-round, and I'm ready to try it!

the Swift below Winsor dam is fished year round. I haven't heard how it is fishing lately i wish I were fishing it rather than painting trim. Tell us how you do if you go.

i've been up to the swift a few times over the past month or so. i have fished the " Y" pool as cady lane is empty probably due to catch and release ending in that area on jan1. i had some luck on #28 midges (dry) in the mid afternoon back in january. since then i have not been able to spot any fish which is unusual as the water is very clear and spotting them is quite easy on the swift. i will give it a shot again next weekend. i use very light tackle this time of year. no more than a 3 wt. i also use my new 0 wt which is a blast particularly in this cold water. long leaders (7x-9x) and tiny flies. there are usually midge hatches in the afternoon all winter except in the coldest weather. i've caught fish on a sanjuan worm in the late afternoon around dusk in the middle of heavy falling snow with the temp in the low 20's. the fishing is very technical and the fish are quite educated. low clear water adds to both the fun and the difficulty. good luck and let me know how you do if you go out.

Decided to check out the Swift after reading your note this a.m. The rt 9 lot was empty at 11:15 and so was Cady Lane which was where I ended up. I took two rainbows around a foot long on a san juan worm under cold, windy conditions. It was the first time out since late December for me. This river fishes well but it can be crowded at times. Today was a major exception! There was no surface action to speak of. If the temperature had been 10 degrees warmer I might of been fishing #26 and #28 midges. Anyway, it beats staying inside.

Well, I didn't end up going. :( The wife and I went furniture shopping on Saturday, and then to Lowe's yesterday. Yay. I can hardly contain my excitement... It's good to hear a fishing report millerbrown, at least somebody made it out there. :)
