SRFB has accepted the grant proposal that the SIRC submitted to fix Steelhead Heaven Landslide. The project will be finished in the summer of 2006!

Is this the slide that was supposed to be fixed this last summer but they went to get both the slides on the NF and SF at the same time so the put it on hold. This is good news though. Any news on the Gold Basin slide?

I understand the county own the land up near the head by the rip-rap. Since this is the case, has tearing out this rip rap at the top and letting the river move back to the south been looked at or studied, or has this been deemed unfeasible because it would probably flood a few property owners out?

At any rate, this is good news for it has been a long time coming.

Thanks for the info.

Prior to 1995 when that wound really got opened up in the floods, I used to fish that river a heck of a lot and I enjoyed it. Especially low around Cicero. After that, the river turned to milk in the spring.

This is good news. Better late than never.

I wonder how that section will fish?

What I don't get Brian is that the county is putting in $500,000 a year to make that slough in sylvania but will not fork out $50,000 once to get rid of "Knot Weed" which is a huge problem on the stilly. . . especailly the NF. . . . I was a amazed at that SIRC of what money that guy was getting . . . for that project which is "said" to be somthing that would help, as with knot weed we "know" it would help just as the fixing slides on the NF & SF would help greatly. Japanese Knot Weed first then Gold Basin next, then they can build the pet slough. . .

You and your friends up your way have worked very hard to get this far for that river.

We all thank you very, very much for your time and effort.

Happy New Year.

The “North Meander” project is vital for Salmonids; the cost is a one time thing that SRFB granted 3 years ago; the Corp in my opinion has been the one dragging there feet on this project.

Knot Weed has to be approved (I know it’s a terrible thing so don’t jump on me, jump on Olympia back) for grant program from SRFB. Next month there is a two day meeting in Tacoma (Shared Strategy for Puget Sound) which this issue of Knot Weed will come up; which I’ll be at.

Thanks OC!

I completely understand the significance of the of it, yet at the same time I hear people being ignored on the issue of JKW. I just don't have the patients to listen to political reasons when it's matter of a 1/10th the grant money for the NMP, which is something that is all hypothetical and we know that knot weed does damage. The guy that put on the presentation of the NMP did not seem sure enough to me what was going to happen, if it was just going to silt-up or not? I know I know dragging feet. . .but 10-15 years from now when the NMP is done and everything perfect, yet there is no aquatic life left in the NF because of JKW, it will be a sad day(which won't happen, knock on wood, because of the great members of SIRC). You guys were right on the ball with me when I talked about the wheel, answered everything I needed to know, I am just trying to bring up the questions of the future. And Sunny's two cents made allot more sense then the whole NMP presentation and all the uncertainties, not saying I'm against it in any way (way for it) just saying why can't they both brought into manifestation.

I know it’s a terrible thing so don’t jump on me, jump on Olympia back
Sorry you are the only guy, who has a opinion and a voice that I know. . . . besides my pen and paper. . . .

Get me a publisher and I will raise you the money myself, a StillyNF fly-fishing. calender :)

Thanx Brian

Like OC, I am of the opinion that all of us who fish the Stilly or who wish to fish the Stilly some day owe you guys of SIRC, the Stilly Tribe, and the county a very large and loud THANK YOU for getting this project herded through. It is not easy working with all the different political parties and many time competing interests to get it done. I for one am grateful and thankful of your efforts.
