Here are a few Yak fly's I tied for a upcoming trip to NC. they are 12" plus or minus and tied on 8/0 TMC 600. Top fly is a tube tied on a bic pen barrel. It is now strung on 200# flouro w/ a 8/0 hook....crimped connections.
Giant BFT watch out!

boy...am I ready to hook a 400# BFT!
I wonder if it will matter...that I've been away from the gym for awhile! :( :Eyecrazy:
Gorgeous flies Jimbo! Love to see them in person - will you be at the winter shows?

Hey maybe I will venture down out of the mountains ...to visit a show or two!

Jim, just one question... what hooks? they look like thick Tiemco...or Trey Combs...?

Good eyes John!
TMC 600sp 8/0 hook...very sharp
That was the biggest I could find for a fly....any leads on bigger fly hook?
We are using 11/o mustads for trolling....too heavy for a fly....I think?

Here are the last 3....bright fly version!
More angel hair & flash to go w/ the yak body bulk.

Look good. BF bite is a bit slow. On one day and off the next. Hopefully it will be a go when you get here. Are you planning on flyfishing exclusively for bluefins? Who are you going with? The local charter guys want nothing to do with flyfishing for the most part. Those same fatbacks that the tuna are eating are being fed on by the stripers too. Bring along a 10 wt to go along with the 20 wt (LOL) and fish closer to the shoals and the beach. I will be out there too. Go ahead and give me a call when you are in town. Ph # is on my website. :smokin:

We are trailering 2 boats down & staying in Atlantic Beach. For the most part we will be trolling ballyhoo. But we are bringing a 19 wt. to throw some flies....if we find some BF balling up the bunker.
The flies have a layer of superhair in the mix to add some stability. But we don't really plan on "casting" too much w/ the big flyrod. Hopefully the fish will be on the baitball and we can make a backcast and shoot the line 40-50 feet into the mix.
Sounds good in theory! :hihi:
I do think casting will be the "EASY" part.....landing those Beasts will be another story! Wish us luck! :Eyecrazy:

Speckled trout were caught at the Cape Lookout Rock Jetty. Some boats went bluefin fishing but didn't get any bites.

Just got back on Saturday night. Between 2 boats we got 13 Giants in 4 days OTW. Unfortunately NO JOY on the flyrod......just really never got a good opportunity.
We did fish standup gear....50 and 70 # and had a ball! Fish were between 300-600#.....since we released all fish these are just estimates on weight. Really enjoyed our stay in Atlantic Beach....very nice people , good food and great fishing!
