Since winter steelheading is upon us, I thought I'd post a scan of one of my favorite winter dee flies, the AKROYD. This is one is tied on an Alec Jackson Blind Eye Spey Hook #1.5 and uses Argus Pheasant wing sections for the wing.
The pattern for those who don't know it:
Tag: Flat silver tinsel.
Tail: G.P. crest and G.P. tippet in strands.
Butt: Black ostrich.
Rear Body: light orange dubbing ribbed with oval silver tinsel.
Rear hackle: Yellow.
Joint: Black ostrich.
Front Body: Black floss ribbed with medium or large flat silver tinsel with oval
silver tinsel along the back edge of the flat.
Front hackle: Black spey feather.
Throat: Guinea.
Wing: Cinnamon turkey, White turkey, or Argus pheasant wing.
Sides: Jungle cock.
