: UFT in CT (Hartford area)
10-29-2004, 04:00 PM
I am interested in finding out how many people here may be interested in attending a United Fly Tyers meeting once a month here in the Hartford CT area to meet and tie fly patterns as well as swap some fishing stories.
If there is enough interest I may pursue starting a UFT group out here in CT. Initially I doubt that there will be enough interest to have a large group, But you never know. Until a larger group is formed it will likely be difficult to attract prominent speakers and vendors to the meeting But we can worry about that if and when there's enough interested people to attend.
Meeting places and times will be defined later if there is enough people interested.
Please reply here to show any interest in joining the group.

Greg, I had a good discussion with Jared yesterday regarding this very subject. He gave me lots of good information as a starting point, and is sending me some more information via snail mail.
It's nice to see that someone else in CT is interested in this. Let's see how much interest we get here, and then talk offline about our options.
By the way, count me in.

I kind of expected you were interested per the previous thread (UFT in CT). Glad to hear someone besides myself is thinking about this. Let me know when you get that info from Jared. Perhaps we can get together and discuss it some evening after work.
Talk to ya soon,

Greg, whereabouts in CT do you live?
I'm in Portland, about 15 miles south of Hartford on the east bank of the CT River.

I'm not close enough to be able to get there on a regular basis but if there was a meeting on a night when I'm in CT (or this time zone  ) I would definitely make the drive. I'm in Newtown, about 50 miles down I 84.

I live in Massachussetts, But work in Hartford 4 days a week. I can't make it to any of the fly tying groups I belong to because they all meet on the nights I'm in Hartford working. I could probably get a room at the University of Hartford for the meetings that could accomadate a large group, however there appears to be only a few interested from this forum anyway. I was thinking of posting for interest on the CT CCA site as well and seeing how many might be interested that are close enough to the Hartford area. I'm sure there would be more interested if we did some advertising in the right publications or other websites that have a larger number of people that live near or in the Hartford area than are apparently regulars on this forum

I'm about 1.5 hrs from Hartford. I'd probably go to the meetings once in a while but would not be able to go regularly.

Greg, once I receive the info from Jared let's plan on meeting. I'll let you know when it arrives.
Also, I know of a few other sources that could produce plenty of interested parties for the group. I think that we could have a nice core membership, even if it starts out small.

Sounds, good Mark.
I'll keep an eye out for a post or a PM in that regards.

I am very interested in the UFT idea in Connecticut.
A suggestion would be to have the winter meetings on the weekends for those of us who will travel longer distances (Litchfield, CT). Or possibly Friday evenings in order to stay later and not be concerned with the late night commute.

Greg and I will be having a meeting of the minds on this subject very soon. We should have some more details, and will fill you in as we go.
Thanks for your input. That's what we need to shape the group and help it grow.

Will you be attending the FF show in Danbury, CT this weekend?
This is the new fly tying show by Jim Krul, first year at The Sheraton Hotel.
We could possibly "hook up" and have a discussion on CT UFT and what an ideal environment for additional recruits ! !

Fred, I'm unable to attend but will almost definitely make it to the Flyfishing University show in Danbury in January.
We'll keep everyone posted.

The November show must be one of the industry's best kept secrets!
I'll try to get over to check it out this week-end. Weather look like a bust as far as fishing goes
A CT gathering at the Danbury show in January sounds like a "must do" event :smokin:
