I'm going to be in Chatham this weekend too but not even bringing my gear. It's gonna blow like stink (N wind 20-25 gusts to 30). A real bummer..I had been looking forward to a dawn patrol on Sunday...

Dave,
Never ever leave the gear at home no matter what the weather forecast!!! Bring it and definitely go to the beach and at least look you never know what you might run into at this time of the year, I have done that before and will never leave the stuff at home again

In my casual study of predictions of weather forecasts, I have come to the following conclusion: If they predict good conditions, they are wrong 50% of the time; if they predict bad conditions, they are right 99% of the time.
Either way.....bring your gear!

The weather may be lousey but one things for sure, the fish gotta eat. Bad NE winds may put the fish off for 2,3 or even 4 days but sooner or later the barometer becomes a non issus and allhell breaks loose. Saw a report that MMA has a gigantic blitz going on right now.

The wind may be honkin out of the north and makin for big surf, But you should still be able to fish on the leeward sides of things. The north facing shores maybe hammered this weekend, But the south facing ones shouldn't be too bad depending where you are. ;)

Tight Lines,
Greg.

Thanks for all the comments (much appreciated), but given the latest weather prection (gusts 30 mph+), I think that I will try either the Cape or RI during the week. Not fun fighting wind. My uneducated guess is that either a calm day or wind direction change will charge things up). Good luck to those who fight the wind this weekend.

I am not familar with the Newport area don't fish it. Check with our sponsor the Saltwater Edge they'll give you the scoop. Where I fished today the fish were just out of casting range but sometimes were close. The wind and surf is very high . Sometimes you hit it just right and sometimes you don't . You have to put in your time. FishHawk :smokin:

Did anybody score over the weekend? I fished Chatham/Harwich yesterday AM and it was DEAD. Casting with the wind was not a problem...lack of fish was.

With NE wind they were probably piled up against SB but the surf and wind on the east side was brutal. Whitcaps in the inlet..pleasant bay looked like something out of "A Perfect Storm". Pretty cool to see...but not really fishable.
