Now that the season is well underway,I have found that I'm in need of a chest pack. I'd be very interested in hearing any thoughts on your favorites.

Thanks,
John

Mike and I have the Silver Creek chest pack through Cabela's and we are very happy with it. There are only two things we would see changed. 1. I like to carry a lot of stuff and the front pack is a bit cramped for me. 2. The zipper grips are plastic and feel kind of flimsy but we have had no problem with them yet.

I really like the front and back storage compartments. Another thing that is really important is double zipper handles to allow opening the compartment partially from the top to prevent things from falling out. Lightweight is important to me.

For wading, I like enough room in the back for water, snack, flashlight extra flybox and a spare spool. In the front - main flybox, leader spools, measuring tape, compass, hone, whistle, etc. I typically carry the cell phone in pockets but am about to add a hand held GPS to the list of items and probably need to expand my capacity as well.

Found some good ones online at <!--http--><a href="http://www.patagonia.com/products/productline/productpage.ehtml?maincat=other&browsetype=producttype&browsecat=luggage&collection=theworks&itemid=48148" target="_blank">Patagonia</a><!--url-->, <!--http--><a href="http://bucksbags.com/access1.htm" target="_blank">Bucks Bags</a><!--url-->, <!--http--><a href="http://bwsports.com/cv2large.html" target="_blank">BW Sports</a><!--url-->, <!--http--><a href="http://fishingwholesale.bizland.com/equipment/wgear_chestpack.htm" target="_blank">another,</a><!--url--> <!--http--><a href="http://www.xstreamgear.com/flyfchest.html" target="_blank">or this one,</a><!--url--> <!--http--><a href="http://www.ccfilson.com/tacklepacksh.html" target="_blank">and last but not least here.</a><!--url-->

I'll go check out the brand of the one I have now and let you know.

Go to Wal-Mart, ladies' purse section, and you'll find a perfect over-the-shoulder fly fishing bag for $7.95. I have three, for freshwater, saltwater and offshore FF. It'll hold a reel and spare spool, 3-4 fly boxes, pliers/knife, all the tippet spools you need, and has lots of places for nail clippers, hemostats, made-up leaders, a nifty place to keep a couple flies while changing, etc. Made out of tough cordura, and the zippers seem fine after two whole seasons. I can't remember the brand name, but could look it up at home if you'd like.
