on the refuge today.

Yesterday was coastal hell with sideways rain, dark clouds and a howling cross wind. Tom did well to land a couple of fish in all that mess but reported "it was hard work" over the half day outing. Days like this separate the true fishermen from the weekend warriors, he definitely passed muster. It was a hard outing to say the least with the remnants of Jean pelting us silly with wind, waves and rain.

Today however was a crisp bright bluebird fall day and the flood brought some of the biggest baddest stripahs of the year onto the flats. Bob had never sight fished before for any species and was flabbergasted by the packs of wolves buzzing in search of things to kill. First shot yielded a brute 36-38". He actually beaned one right on the head, which spooked the fish but it made a big circle and came back to eat the fly! Never saw a single schoolie all day, just big bass.

The fat lady hasn't sung, in fact once the unruly backside lays down I am certain the fall migration will yield some fantastic beach fishing from Nauset to South Beach.

The finale on the cape is when the southside beaches are jammed with bunker and migrating fish busting as far as the eye can see. Usually closer to Halloween.

Much good angling to go before we move on to the Sandy Hook Clave!

... and no tickets for all day parking at the lighthouse

.......... unless you're from CT with a big blue kayak on the roof of your Jeep

I am 2 for 2 at the lighthouse in the 'off season" - one two weeks before memorial day and one a couple of weeks after labor day, both last year.

At $25 its not a bad deal but getting towed would be the pitz. The walk from the causeway isn't so bad, and think of all those extra calories your burning up :smokin: I hope to hit the Cape surf in late October also.

Maybe an impromptu halloween double hander clave? :lildevl: :lildevl:

Single handers welcome!
