: First batch of 22's

I just finished tying a few size 22's flies and was able to tie some alright adams, ive been running into trouble winging them though. Been using uni-thread 8/0 it seems to be ok. Are there any tips and tricks for tying midges? On some patterns are wings even necessary?

Use teal flank and split it after tying it in for wings on any Adams under #18. They will look very close to those tied with grizzly hackle tips and the teal is a whole lot easier to tie in on small flies than the very small grizzly hackle tips. At any rate, the fish won't care.

honestly for the midges you don't need to tie in the wings
