what would b a weight of a fly rod to go into the bay with to catch some flounder, fluke, weakfish, bluefish??
lemme rephrase: what weight do u all suggest for light salt water fishing
I am going to say 9wt 9ft'er for salt as an all-around.
You might have more fun with an 8wt, you might move more big blues with a 10wt, but for a first SW rod I would go with a 9wt in a sweet action like the Sage VPS or T&T.
You could buy a lot cheaper but you will eventually upgrade so it costs you less to buy top shelf at first, in my opinion.

I've been using a 8.5' 7wt Eagle claw but have only caught Bullheads :( I have been going for silvers and searuns but there not moving yet.
Word is that they are moving with the recent rains. Most Puget Sound and Straits guys I know are hitting them now although they are far from being "in" as they will be in September.
Any day now...
