: Bamboo!

Just recieved my first bamboo in the mail. :smokin:

It is a 10.5' pezon et michelle made for farlows of london on 3/2/1966. It is a parabolic taper that is supposed to cast a DT8 with ease. Was looking for an orvis shooting star but this came up on ebay at a price I could not resist.

Just took it out of the shipping tube at work and waving it over my coworkers heads. Cannot wait to fish it in the next few days and it looks to be in really good condition.

Now I have my very own bamboo switch rod. Will post some photos tonight after casting it.

I own a couple of cane rods but as of yet no double handers. I want to hear all about it. Especially how cane handles the modern spey lines. Good for you man!

It has a full spey handle with a sliding band cork seat. Just got back lawn casting it and it was OK. Never had much luck spey casting on the grass so I will drag her down to the river tomorrow.

Better keep an eye on this gem when you run into OC on the river, or his penchant for quality cane might cause him to make you an offer you can't refuse!

Seriously, I think you got a better rod than the shooting star. It looks like a very well cared for rod. Now go out and catch a steelhead on it like OC is rumored to do at times.

It's a beauty. You need to call Olaf and get a real line for it.

Nice rod Sean I like the Kelly Green wraps on the French Rods I have the Ritz model which is a 5wt two piece the tip is longer than the butt section but has a more standard reel seat no spey intended on the 5wt. It was designed as a Parabolic action for Dry Fly by Ritz.
That rod you have there sounds very interesting I hope to get a closer look someday.

Very nice indeed!

As for rumors of OC catching fish, I have yet to see him catch one. I think it is all misinformation.

Sean, nice rod, however, beware your the next step will be clipping your hook points and just fishing for "takes"

Rumor has it, he has already begun. I've heard of atleast one 'take' to a pointless fly of his.

Nice rod! In these parts, we call that type of reel seat a "w" fitting. It works particularly well with those older British reels with a long saddle.

Poul

p.s. if you run across a custum built Sage 7136 brownie with a "w"-fitting reel seat, it might be the one that was either stolen out of my garage or I left/lost somewhere (the joys of aging!)

NICE !!!
I've got a 12' Saumon by Pezon et Michel made by G. Michel in the same year !
It's in MINT condition and has NEVER had a reel hung on it .
Cheers

Thanks guys. I have got some work in with it and would have to say I am pretty impressed. It may be 40 years old but it still can throw nice loops.

As far as the hookless thing I may be guilty...Was thinking of putting in a reg in Ryan's name so we can have sparkys law #2 :hihi:

Sean,

Just beautiful, really wonderful. Welcome to the real summer show. One fish on that rod and you will feel the difference of what a real rod is and our modern imposters. There is a difference big time and when winter comes and that cane of yours is put away you will dream constantly of summer swings and summer takes.

Hope you hook up soon!

Sean, thanks for sending the link to the pics. Of course it's beautiful and casts well. But the question is: what will you think of it when you land your first fish with it? My guess is you're well on your way to becoming a 'caniac' . . .
