The Discovery Channel will begin its annual presentation of Shark Week, starting tonight (July 25) at 8:00 pm. I find myself drawn to this offering of shows every year. I have a certain fascination with such efficient animals.
Hope some of you can check it out.

I agree! I love sharks. I still cannot understand why anyone would swim in saltwater? I know the odds are so very slim yet you never know. I would get into a cage to see a Great White though. Shark week rules.

Swimming in salt water is relatively safe, given a certain level of common sense.
Just stay out of the chum slicks! :tsk_tsk:

Mark, I saw the title of this thread and thought you were refering to the democratic convention.

While I find some of the "documentaries" to be informational, I still feel that the narratives include far too many negative descriptors such as "ferocious, man-eating, razor-edged..." and so on. Sharks are one of the most highly evolved groups of animals that the planet has ever seen; when you get into the ocean, you step into their world. It's simply frustrating to hear these terms, which predispose people to being unreasonably terrified of the animals. After all, they're only fish :lildevl:
