If you're talking about Portland, Maine I can help. I grew up there and did some guiding during the summers of my college years back in the early 1990s.

I've always found Maine pretty dry. Talk to Sully about where he goes up there

There have been good reports from Biddeford and areas near Portland. I have some business up that way in the next couple weeks so let me know when you are heading up Jim and I might be able to hook up with you for some down east stripah.

I'd be fishing in Maine this weekend but the DDFP says I just spent a week fishing so I have to wait till next weekend. I fished mostly at Parsons Beach, lots of small fish under 20" but the Blues were there at times and they are always fun. Just remember it's midsummer and you might just as well take a nap if it's a sunny day and wait for the blues to show up. In Maine I've found that if you have rocks, waves, and low light you can catch fish.

The Presumpscot at Martins Point where it drains has always been good. It can be kind of tricky with the rock weed. The mouth of Scarborough Marsh is always really good. I haven't caught any but the word is the blues have been around lately. Portland Headlight, and Kettle Cove in Cape Elizabeth is rumoured to be good at low. I haven't done a lot of this rocky shore fishing but the guys at The Tackle Shop in Portland say it's been productive.

I can confirm the bluefish rumors. I was surprised to find gator blues (10+ lbs) at one of my standby shore spots in the Saco/Biddeford area this weekend. They weren't real picky, and were perfectly happy to hit poppers.

It is the dog days of summer! When the surf isn't going at 5-8ft the rocks at the beaches and on the southern coast have been really hot. If the wind is blowing and/or the surf is big head to the rivers..... mousam, saco, scarboro marsh..etc. Caught the dropping tide... or further upstream catch higher tides.

Thanks for the info. I never did make it to the water but it's something to seriously consider next year during the dog days.
