: use a crochet hook to tie a perfection loop

Many times I wish to tie as small a perfection loop as possible on my leader to fly line connection if I the line can't support a nail knot. Or for my tippet connection to the butt. Cuts down on bulk and wind resistance. What I do is use a size 4 crochet hook. Form your two loops as small as possible - much too small to manipulate the second loop through the first loop in the conventional manner - then pass the hook through the first loop, hook the second loop and pull it through. Use the shaft of the hook into the final loop to snug up the knot.

To manually make a small loop, you can push slack line from the top half of the loop back in from whence it came and pull it the slack via the tag. Make the loop as small as you want and then use any tool (a hook on a fly works) to pull the loop tight

Loco Alto,

This is in no way mocking you...When I read your response "from whence it came," it reminded me of a movie, Candian Bacon. There was a scene with John Cleese ( I believe) where he said in the Queens english..."Go back from whence thou came." Too funny, I am really bored!!!

I may have to try the crochet hook seeing that I have bear claws for hands.
