First, I'd like to say Hi to the board. I'm looking to buy a new lightweight fly outfit. I would like to fish for bass and panfish in some of my local ponds. The bass are not large, maybe max 15". And I'd like a rod for small and medium sized trout. What weight rod and reel would you guys recommend? 9' or smaller? Looking to spend around $250. Thanx.:)

I won't get into brands (each their own), but I can give you a nudge in the right direction as far as the weight of the outfit you might want to look into.
It sounds like you could do your fishing with a 5 or 6 weight outfit. If you're sure that the bass rarely get over 15", these weights will let both panfish and bass show off well during a fight. Bear in mind that if you plan on casting larger flies, you may be more comfortable with the 6 weight or even heavier.
The 5 or 6 weight would also work well for trout. Keep in mind the size of the flies you'll be casting....throwing streamers and weighted nymphs is easier with a 6 than a 5. I try to use as long a rod as I can get away with when trout fishing because I do a lot of nymphing, and a long rod gives better line control for mending. But if you fish canopied streams, a 9 foot rod would be impractical.
Good luck with your search, and if possible cast before you buy.

I'd get the 6 wgt. in a 9' , but to clarify, I like the big bass flys and when fishing from a float tube the extra length helps keep everything off the water during casting........Trez
