: Big Fish!! I mean huge...

OK OK I know it is not flyfishing - but it is only a matter of time before someone starts throwing a fly over one of these.

What am I talking about? The biggest fish ever caught on rod and line in Ireland (or Britain). At nearly 1000lbs the huge bluefin was almost bigger that the boat it was caught/fought from! I am sure some of you guys have the right gear for this kind of thing. Or is it possible to catch a bluefin that big on a flyrod? Anyone been there done that?

oh yeah here is the link:

Now that's a fish!

So, when are you going to land one Mylo?

Given that the biggest sea fish I've had on fly was a whopping 3lbs trigger fish and the majority are pollack of less than a pound I would not be over confident... Anyway I have been smashed by "big" pollack - I would hate to see what "little" bluefin would do let alone a 1000lb brute!

Sure you can catch a fish like that on a fly. Just one question: what weight line do you use with a crane? ^_^

I don't understand. If that bluefin was around 1000lbs it isn't the biggest. The IGFA record bluefin was 1496lbs caught in Novia Scotia in the seventy's. The largest gamefish was a black Marlin at 1560lbs in Peru
