Here is another very simple nymph pattern that
has been effective on Steelhead:
Hook: Mustad 79580 size 6 and 8
Tail: Dark Elk
Body: Natural Rabbit Dubbing
Legs: Dark Elk
Thread: Black Nylon
a variation of the teeny nymph?

Actually, it's just a variation of a hairs ear nymph that
I originally used on crane prarie in Oregon quite a few
years ago. Was Steelhead fishing, ran out of my other
patterns and tried this one out - it did the job very
well on summer runs. Stick with 5 patterns when I want
to catch fish; experiment with others at times. Had a lot
more success with with simple, sparse patterns. Especially
the ones that have a lot of swimming action.

Ashbourn, It's not weighted. Fish all my flies without
any type of weight. I use a sinktip fly line or a floating
line with some creative mending.
