. . . a 6" largemouth bass caught on a near nuff crawfish . I also managed to catch a small carp on a brown woolly bugger. There were hundreds of carp swimming around in the backwater river channel but they pretty much ignored my offerings. I never saw or felt the take -- the carp was just on the line when I started to retrieve. It was hooked in the mouth, but I wonder if it intentionally ate the fly or just happened to inhale as my fly passed in front of it .
I was able to go down to Texas in February. Caught a nice 16 inch large mouth to start things off on a "chinchilla" zonker. Oh yeah and about a dozen bluegill on a bright colored skater pattern. Hey, between me and those fish it was a romantic valentines day.
Well last evening I finally had a chance to get out and after the wind calmed down and the sun began to set, monster bull blue gills began to move up into the reeds and about 20-25 succumbed to my size #10 black gnat. I had a ball catching and releasing them and it was a nice christening for a 5wt that I just built. A nice start to the season.
