Darned interesting to look at fly patterns (or 'close ones') that 'work' in some waters, and are a zilch in others. Never have been able to figure that one out.
In days of old, a 'green butted' anything worked very well for me on the Toutle (pre-KABLOOOOOIE) and the Kalama. In So. Oregon zip .... with one very major exception. The Chetco has a great run of kings, and just reverse the pattern (green in front) and you have one of the most effective fly's going.

Good point - this fly worked well on the SF Stilly, Skykomish,
and Sauk in the late 80's. Also worked well on the Wilson
and Deschutes in Oregon. Going to have to try and put it
in front of some fish on the Toutle this year and see what
happens. Have a good one.

This i'm looking forward to seeing what you have to post. Vis a vis the Toutle, other than God Grace, I would have been in Hollywood Canyon when the poop hit the fan.
Doubt I've had a half dozen 'migraine headakes' in my life .. the night before/that morning ... a bagged going down .... I was lucky, many weren't.

I'll try to never complain about headaches again! If
there is such a thing as a "good migrain" think you
found it. Keep ya posted on the Toutle :eyecrazy:
