On another thread, I mentioned that the presence of sharks in the Padre Island surf sometimes discouraged the timid from wading. This photo was taken last year by Billy Sandifer, a Padre guide and a bit of an icon. I believe he said these are bull sharks herding dusky anchovies.

I suspect a 12 wt with braided steel leader would do the trick...maybe....
Anyway, I forwarded the pic to my Dad telling him I took it at Nauset Beach this past weekend....interesting to see if he'll venture out there with me this summer...

It's a dolphin in Malibu... Still intimidating, though. I remember being out photographing surfers (another lifetime, and one of my favorites) and a harbor seal collided with me in the thigh, only I didn't know it was a seal, and he didn't know I was a human, apparently, as he popped up about five feet away and we exchanged panic stricken glances...
I'll be right there with the surf-tamer :hehe:

Do wet suits come with a 'drop flap' in back like a set of the old 'long johns?'
Would really help if you had to 'clean yourself up.':whoa:

Something tells me that even if I were wearing waders, after seeing that I'd be wading wet.

Only time "I" got dolphins around my boat was in late summer about 30 miles west of Smith Island (you Puget Sounders know where that is). Doing our 'orbit' in the Coast Guard cutter waiting for some thing to happen (nothing did) but lots of large shipping in the area.
Flat calm/full moon and all but what could only be called a 'ground fog' came up; couldn't have been more than 20-30 foot above the water. But enough to totally obscure a small vessel.
As an additional safety messure I turned on the mast strob light ... you can see these things for miles! All I can think is the flashing light attracted the critters who congrigated around the boat and 'did their thing.'
WONDERFUL TO WATCH!!!!
