This is a pattern that I've been fooling around with for a couple of years.
Previous versions had a chenille body that while successful took too long to

Hook: Mustad 3366 or TMC 8089, #6 here
weight & weed guard: optional
Thread: clear mono
tail & body: 1 strand from a 2 strand Plastic Canvas yarn (Needloft is
preferred) & 4 strands Kreinik blending filament. Bright yellow yarn &
#095 Filament were used here.

Cut an 18-24" piece of the yarn and separate the strands. Lay the yarn out
on a table or your lap and lay blending filament on top of the yarn and cut
4 pieces the same length as the yarn.

Tie the yarn strand & filaments to a dubbing whorl, in previous versions I
used a cup hook in a drill, and then holding the free end of the strand
twist the whorl. Twist it enough to tighten the strand. Stop the whorl from
spinning by placing it on a flat surface. While still holding the yarn
taut with 1 hand grab the center of the strand with the other. Double over
the strand, then let go of the middle of the yarn. the yarn will
twist up into a bundle . Straighten it out and tie an overhand knot in the
bundle by the whorl. the tough part is over.

There are 2 ways to finish the tail. you can tie an overhand knot ~ 1" from
the tip or tying on a needle place a few wraps of thread in the same place.
after this is done cut the very tip of the bundle, comb out the fibers & cut
to shape.

to complete the fly tie the strand down to the hook at the rear with 4 or 5
turns of thread on top of each other. Wrap the thread forward, then the
strand tie off and your done.
