May 9th is my guess for Cape Cod, although you guys in Jersey will see them much earlier. Kinda early for mid-cape from shore, but still a safe bet based on the past several years.

That's only about 6 weeks away!:)

Last year I caught bass you know where on May 5. Bright fish, full of fight. Won't be long now. The Rooster and I will give it a shot on May 8 th. FishHawk:devil: :D

You can find plenty of spring schoolies even earlier most years, but I am talking multiple keeper day wading on the fly. I said the 9th because that gives a few days to get tuned back in to the scene. ;)

That is the day I step foot onto the cape so I am hoping that prediction is true for my sake.

Whats going on here? I truly believed that this weekend I would get the first bass of the year as they escaped the outflow and headed up into the river. Last week the bay water temp was 41* and the flats had to be a little warmer, now the bay has dropped back to 38* and a predicted low of 15* tomorrow night! This winter just refuses to quit !

It's a nasty one that's for sure. Spring is trying like heck - I've got cardinals in the yard, buzzards overhead, geese on the snow and robins poking around... but the thermometer says 18 degrees F. But winter's winning the battle at this point.

The only good thing about a late spring (piscatorially speaking) is that the migration tends to be on a later phase and for waiting longer, it rewards by going further into the season for folks who are tuned into it.

All of this is temperature driven. Mid forties to high forties is what we want . Aways to go still . FishHawk:(

Hey,
It won't be long.
May 7 Weekend would be an appropriate time for big stripers to arrive. I have already put the date in with the Big Guy in the sky! Sure hope he was listening.
Can't wait.
Only 48 days away!
Cheers,
DK
