I just bought the 555 floating Cortland and it stinks. The first 3 feet keep sinking on me. I have to put dressing or muclin on it 4 or 5 times to keep it up. In general I really like cortland stuff but the 555 has really disappointed me.

The first few feet of that so-called $#@&^% floating 555 that I have sink better than some sink-tips I have owned. Even after dressing with about everything I know of. Nothing but JUNK!

Mine didn't do that. It has a memory in it that won't quit. They tell you to stretch it before use but after a while you get tired of doing that.So I went bact to my 444. No memory in that line and it doesn't sink.

I agree with all of these observations, but on the positive side, it is wicked durable and casts nice in a stiff breeze.

The fellow who started it all passed away just a short time ago.

I dropped almost 60 bucks on the 5wt clear floater and was so darned disappointed.

Just the worst freshwater line I could ever imagine. How Cortland could put this line out and advertise it with a straight face is beyond me. NO redeeming value.

I bought mine from a cabelas bargain cave, so I couldn't return the thing or I most certainly would have

I've since bought a whole complement of $20 SA aircell lines and just love them. DTs only, though.

Haven't tried the 555 floater and I guess I won't bother.

On the other hand I did buy a 350 grain 555 QD and liked it. Compared favorably with the 444SL 325 QD with a bit less tangling.

The floater is the only one that sucks. The "Little Tunny" I use is one of the best flylines ever. Sorry I wasn't more specific.

Another good deal in a floater is the Airflo Platinum Chalkstream. There are some places blowing them out at $25/per, which is a great deal for this line.

For DT, though, I don't feel the need to get fancier than $25!
