: May 11 in Ireland - Mylo?

Yo Mylo,
The CFB site still has May 11th as the end of the stream access ban because of FMD. Any word on it's lifting, or is it already so?
How is the situation?

the story is the ban is lifted... but we are keen to see the guidelines remain in place. In effect this means it is down to the local club or farmer to allow access to the river. In cases where the land is not used by livestock there generally no problem. Where livestock has been or is, well, some farmers do not want to risk it yet...

But to all intents and purposes it is all systems go.

I have had two days, one on a boat in L. Derg, on the Shannon river. Hoping for big mayfly action but was a little early. One fish to the boat... The next week (last w/end)there was a heavy fall of gnats and everyone cleaned up! Its always the same.

On the day they had a ball I had a tough day on a stocked rainbow fishery... Not my usual scene as I do not see them as the real thing, they are often of poor quality in these fisheries. We had hoped for a day of carnage (stockie-bashing!) but it was full subshine all day. It turned into an endurance test with everything in the box getting a swim. Towards the evening there was a bit of a hatch and fish were feeding just out of casting range. All of a sudden I caught one on a dry cdc sedge #16.... WOW! It was 2lbs of over wintered attitude! I never really understood why people were so keen to lash them into lakes in the past, but when they are a high quality strain I can understand why. It took the me almost to the backing twice... I mean I could see it between the last couple of turns of fly line on the reel. Of all the browns i have caught not one ran like that!

But back to river fishing.... as I said it is all go, but local access is decided at a local level. If you have a more specific query I can find out what the word on the ground is before you get here.

Glad to hear things are getting back to normal in time for the mayfly season. This is a big time of year for many of the small guest houses out west.
