Here is a crab fly. I created it today based on input from Dick Brown's book and the fly tying segment on Spanish fly this morning. Jose Wejebe mentioned the tiers name to quickly but the concept was that using corsair tubing w/o epoxy for the body allows for a great casting fly because the air can flow through it. Tied in a size 4 I am hoping this might be a great fly if there are Permit and bones in the area. Would love to hear some feedback if improvements can be made.

Nice job Sean. I caught that program too and wasn't listening when he mentioned the tyers name

I got some good feedback from Marshrunner on splash factor so I have some bathtub testing in the near future.

I didn't get the guy's name either. Just remember something- when Jose showed this fly he really didn't make any mention of stalking on glass calm flats, and the conversation about fishing it or the other two he showed was more to swimming it through deeper water. I don't know if I'd worry about splashing it.

I don't think he mentioned it specifically but Permit and Bones are certainly targeted in that environment. I would use this fly in the same situations you would use a Merkin or Raghead two very popular flats flies. Just because he didn't say it doesn't mean we can't tweak the fly to perform in those situations does it? Isn't this game all about constant improvement/innovation to meet a need?

Sean, have Slinger put one of his patented coats of Tibetan epoxy on one fly and see which one casts further. I am suspicious about air flow through the cylinder actually causing more drag especially seeing it wouldn't be deflected around the feathers on the tail. The added weight of the epoxy may also introduce a Sedotti factor.
