I will traveling around Austria/ maybe also Slovenia in June. Has anyone fished there? I have heard that many of the top rivers become clouded due to the Melting ice in the Alps. Can anyone recommed rivers to fish and to avoid during June. Thanks Jeremy

I've visited the Gmunden above Traun in Austria and found it with decent numbers of fish, but with waay too many rules, regs and hoopla for my taste. A bit like Disney's idea of what trout fishing should be like.
Slovenia is a top-notch trouting destination, with everything from C&R prime trout waters to highly technical chalk to small remote streams. Check out http://www.impel-bohinj.si/toc.htm for some decent info. As toi spring runoff, I'd say there is enough geographic variety in Slovenia so you can always find a clear stream within an hour's drive. You might have to fish a chalk spring creek instead of an alpine stream, but both would be excellent fishing. A 10 lb marble or brown is not an unrealistic goal for a week's fishing on their C&R waters.
One word of warning: penalties for even minor transgressions from their complex fishing rules are severe. Make sure your guide (if you use one) is on 'the up and up' or that you thoroughly understand the rules of the stream section you are fishing.
Josko, somehow you never cease to amaze me! :)

In holland we have a nice page with all kinds of threads for flyfishing. Look at the following page and search for Oostenrijk (Austria in Dutch). It's on the left column. Hope this will be of any help.
