HOOK: Saltwater, standard shank. I use a 34007 for mst of the flies but I use the Billy Pate Taprpon hook for when I tie it for tarpon. Tie to sizes that represent the length of the local baitfish.
THREAD: Flat waxed nylon or 3/0, I use the flat waxed
Color: Gray or white
Splitter: White Marabou 1/2 shank length long
Tail: Grizzly Hackles. Use neck hackle for tarpon flies.
Collar: 2 pieces of white marabou tied on the bottom of the hook shank with 2 pieces of gray tied on top of the hook shank.
Topping: Peacock herl
Gills: Red crystal flash
Overbody: Medium pearl mylar tubing
Eyes: Plastic. You can use either moveable or non moveable pupil eyes.
Overcoat: Epoxy, EZ Sparkle Body or EZ Sparkle Body substitute.

NOTES: COLLAR: Then I tie on the collar, I let the marabou extend almost to the eye of the hook on both the underside and on top. I wrap this with thread. Once the mular tubing is slipped over the hook shank, it will be darker on top and lighter on the bottom.

EYES: Don Coleman told me about a glue that he is using called Fletch Tite. It is used in archery. I bought some and it works great for glueing on eyes. It is, in my opinion, a lot better than either super glue or goop.

I tie this fly with a splayed tail for tarpon. For other applications, I use saddle hackles.

I just call the fly a Pilchard pattern.
