Headed out to Central MA on Saturday, joined by Talented Willie for a Day on the Swift River. Took a little while to crack the code but after a couple of hours we started hooking up. Willie, purist that he is, employed diminutive dry flies while I worked deep with dropper rigs combining a wide variety of flies. We both enjoyed some nice fish despite the crowds that came and went during the day.

One fellow was kind enough to wade right down the middle of the river throwing streamers at fish that were already being patiently fished to by more sporting anglers. That's what the trail is for, buddy!

And just when you thought those fish couldn't be any more nervous :eyecrazy:

Spent sunday cruising around the northern border and fishing the Pepperell/Townsend area. Last weeks rain was a breath of fresh air and raised water levels to a much more fishable level in this area. The fish spread out accordingly and we had a fun day on the water despite the rain and few hookups.

Dave, thats a fishing "tactic" I haven't seen there. Last weekend was definitely the time to be out there. It killed me to be cleaning up the yard rather than fishing.

The swift is still fishing really well. A lot of the big rainbows have emerged from the shadows, attempting to spawn. Had one of my best days this year earlier this week. Lots of fun trying to fool the risers with sz 26 dries and 8x tippets. Even more fun trying to land them! :D

Try the Beaverkill if you already haven't for rude anglers. The guides on The BigHorn can also be pushy. I guess that's comes with the turf on the heavily fished rivers.
