Can anyone out there point me in the right direction to get a list of existing Fly Fishing web Sites from the US and Europe... is there a site that lists them or does anyone have their own list they can share with me... thanks for the help.

I don't know of any published list, but webrings might be a good start. I'm also more than happy to share some of my 'favourites', but perhaps I'd better check a couple of things before posting them.

Do you want any website that has flyfishing content/relevance, or are there particular aspects that interest you? I can provide, for example, a number of fishery sites, mostly relating to Atlantic Salmon, but they aren't all strictly fly-only fisheries. Would these be of interest?

In this instance, is 'Admin' prepared to suspend the usual rules about providing links to sites which contain good information, but which also have a commercial aspect, so they can be shared publicly? My list will be rather longer if so!

Just PM your list if you have any concerns, save us all a lot of hassle. As the doctor says "it's hurts us a lot more than it hurts you" ;)

John -

This is a list of manufacturers' sites. Not the kind of content this community produces, but direct links to many, many FF vendors:

I hope you already have received a pm'ed list. As I said in my note, I've tried only to include sites that have information to offer, rather than those that are out-and-out 'shop windows', but inevitably a large number have some sort of commercial aspect, however small.

john,

you might try the following:

go to google and enter "related:www.flyfishingforum.com" as your search (leave the quotes out).

then try "link:flyfishingforum.com" as your search (again leave the quotes out).

then go to alexa.com and do a search for flyfishingforum.com or any other of your other favorite flyfishing sites, click on the "info" link in search results (next to the site you were looking for) and you will see a list of "related sites" or "people who visited this site also visited X"

let me know if you need any help. i'd be happy to walk you through it.

Just out of curosity I did those requests for my site www.flyfishingarkansas.com and they came up blank. How do you link a website to other sites? My site barely shows up on search engines as it is.

you don't. you get other people to link to your site. which is what many search engines look for. but not all.

as for true search engine optimization...it's a bit of a black art. primarily b/c each engine has it's own proprietary algorithms. to learn about the basics, and for some tips, do a search for "search engine optimization" and I bet you'll be presented with plenty to digest. articles like, http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/01/23/index1a.html. a bit outdated, but it will give you an idea re: some of what's involved.

you might also check with your hosting provider to see if they have any search engine registration services. there are several free tools which you can use to submit your site to the various engines and directories, and many hosting providers now have them built into their control panels. after which, optimization is all that's going to help you rise to the top. that or a picture a picture of Britney Spears ;)
