The mile has not fished well for a couple of years due to low water conditions. There are also alot of bait fishermen there and they tend to keep a limit. If you decide to go it is mostly SJWs with midge droppers. There is not alot of dry fly action on the mile. Halfbacks take fish, scuds can be good and buggers near the mouth of the res work. I would hit the reef instead.

I agree with Brad, Gray Reef is better these days than the mile. For a novice, both can be difficult fishing due to the pressure and the small flys and tippets required. If you hit it right it can be very good. If its windy than forget it! The wind out there can ruin your day.
Good Luck!
