hey - I hope you all might share some insight on what I should be tying for MV next weekend. I'll mostly be on a boat, letting my buddy show me the way, but I'll be the only guy with any ff experience. So I am picturing fishing deep rips, like a hardware fisherman might. Any other advice is appreciated. thanks

It's been years since I fished on MV, I remember there was a shop "larry's" (?) sporting goods/tackle/fly shop, that had pretty good info and flies there in Edgartown. You may want to give them a shout. They were helpful, in the past.

Tie white, white and white flies! White deceivers, both sparse and full; if you're fishing the rips as well, white squid flies for the rips. If,. as you say, you're fishing off a boat, you should have your sinking line ready for the full white deceivers and squid flies. Flies for the rips should be big, white with hook size about 2/0 or bigger.
If you're fishing inshore, sand eel flies are best on a floating line near sundown.
