Along with the Isonychia/Brown Drake spinners I observed recently, I noticed a much smaller spinner on the water, probably a size 14 or even a 16, that was present in much fewer overall numbers. The wings were completely clear, the body was short and fat, and I really could find little if any discernable tail. The body was so short and squatty that it actually resembled a common house fly with extra long, clear wings. What type of fly could this have been? I am assuming it is some type of mayfly, one with an abnormally small tail, perhaps?
