I'm sorry to be the bearer of such sad news, but I learned this morning that Del Brown has passed away.

For those who don't know, Del was a tremendous pioneer in saltwater flyfishing, known best for catching more permit on fly than anyone to date: at least 500. Del was a kind, perceptive man who loved flyfishing for permit and advanced the development of flies for them by fishing diligently and doggedly for them for many years.

His passing is a great loss to those of us who knew him, and an even larger loss to the flyfishing community, which saw only rare glimpses of his person but benefited greatly from his pursuit.

Truly a great man and a pioneer.....if and when I get the chance to chase permit with a fly he will be getting much of the credit. He was indeed a man immersed in his pastime.

I believe Del was 83, but I'm basing that on my recollection of his age a few years ago. Amazingly, Del was fishing hard up until a few days/weeks ago.
