We've got a local lake that is full of bluegills, crappie and perch. I'm probably going to throw my float tube in there next week if the weather holds.
Any suggestions on bluegill flies? I found a couple cicadia flies (foam bodies with rubber legs) that seem perfect, but a little variety wouldn't hurt.

This time of year the fish don't seem to be looking up much so I prefer sinking flys. Try small wooly buggers, nymphs & soft hackle wets for the gills. The crappies & perch like minnows as well.

This may be considered a bit unorthodox, but I've caught dozens and dozens of bluegills and other panfish using a very small frog-colored popping bug (with white or yellow belly), size 12 or smaller. Just make sure you wait until the fish has the bug in his mouth before you set the hook, but man, the hours I've spent laying a popper down along the bank and hauling sunnies in... loved it! Poppers will work for yellow perch and crappie as well, but I've had more luck with small streamer patterns, typically white marabou streamers in size 10 and smaller. I would think that very small clousers in white, yellow, or chartruese would do well, also, but I've no experience with that.

I second the recommendation of the wooly bugger. They don't seem to care too much about the color....in fact, I use bright colors so that I can see the fly better. If I don't feel a bump but the fly disappears, I strip set and latch onto another fish. :)

have to agree with dblhaul....sz 6 and 8 buggers seem to be the panfish favorite 'round here

Caught a bunch of bluegill today on a black foam ant with rubber legs. Those foam bugs are killers!

We did real well this year catching large blues on the Chernobyl ant. It's a nice foam pattern, sizes 10 or 12, with a yellow or orange piece on the back that helps to identify the hit.
