As I sit here crushing all my barbs, I wonder:

Why doesn't any hook manufacturer produce barbless hooks...or do they?

Yeah, but they all seem to be fresh water - go figure.

Good question.

You don't see many barbless hooks sold because they are said to be more difficult to manufacture. The barb has the function of holding the wire in the proper location on a jig while it is bent to shape.

At least thats what I remember from an article on hook making some where. Wish I remembered where that article was.

Tiemco has a few barbless hooks... see my recent post on "sand fleas" under the bonefish and tarpon fly archive, all of those are tied on barbless hooks that I picked up at a local shop for 50% off. Yes, these are bronze hooks, but I still use them for SW.
In general, I must say that it's getting to be a pain in the rear to find some of the hook styles I use most often. I'd love it if our company could start a side-business of distributing fly tying materials... you could be certain that we'd offer a full compliment of hooks!
