Looks like you and I had the same idea!

Have you had much success with the L&L Variant? I'v just started fishing it, but it looks good enough to me that I have much faith. I'd be interested in your experience.

Best regards,

Striblue, Jim, Doc,
Never fished these flatwing flies. Any advice on when to use them off Monomoy, Cape areas. I have been pretty successful over the past 15 years or so, but am always looking for new ideas.
Any suggestions, are appreciated.

I've fished the razzle dazzle and done OK. Smaller flatwing have worked great. The fact is except for the herring in the spring there just isn't that much large bait around anymore, but I like tying them. I'm hoping to try the floating line swing, leave it in the face of a big fish that still remembers what a 2lb pogie looked like - until the must inhale. ;)

Looking forward to the season.

I fished them quite a bit last year. Caught fish on all sizes, 2" to 10".Caught albies, bass, blues, (jacks, macks and reds in florida).Last fall a 5"-6" bunker flatwing killed them. had 40+ fish afternoons with it.

Yes.. I know Mike has caught a lot of good fish with them... in Chatham it's mostly eel city... but where the bait may be in greater variety they would be key... also.. the eels I use are clouser syle.. so I am sure the flat wing eels would work as well.. but have not tyed them yet since I still use Juro's eel.

Is there a picture of Juro's eel in the archives?
Curious to see what it looks like.

Yes..do a search under Juro's eel, Juro's deep eel or Deep eel...

Speaking of Eels I am interested in experimenting with the Eel Punt fly this year.

Jim- I use a single feather short flatwing eel punt to imitate the smaller sandeels I generally run into. The black is especially deadly at nite. The mid size- 3"-5" imitate the silversides. Then you can go really large and imitate the eels. I fish droppers and almost always have an eel punt as one of them. Ron
