: Fly Swap #3

03-24-2003, 07:05 PM
I know we are getting close to fishing time so I wanted to get a head count on who would be interested in a final fly swap which I had mentioned back at the beginning of the winter... This would be our official final swap of the year...unless of course others want more... The "Theme" of this swap is only "original" flies.... Any type of fly so long as it is considered original by the tyer... no copies... but copying technique is obviously ok.... and not a familar fly in just another know the drill..... So... just sign up here on this thread if interested... it would be 6 flies again so really the minimum number of participants should be 6 with the maximum unlimited. The flies would be due to me for distribution by the end of May. I have some from Slinger already... but just let me know if everybody is sick of tying.

Hi John, just wondering do these originals have to be tested or can they be ideas from this past winter?
I've got an idea for a crab.

Im in. It will be a fun to tie a saltwater fly after all the midges this winter.

03-25-2003, 03:52 PM
Ashley... the fly does not have to be tested... and John , welcome.. I will wait and see who else signs up... Ashley... Most all flies work anyway..probably 90% of them so I am sure it will work anyway.

O.K. I'm in - this one sounds like fun - now will it be silli-skin flounders, AWACS crabs or floating clam worms?

03-25-2003, 04:14 PM
In that case John I'm im.

03-25-2003, 05:19 PM
STRUBLE, Im in if you still have room;)
P.S. did you get the FLAT WINGS:confused:

03-25-2003, 06:10 PM
Yes Salty I did get the flat wings... see other thread on flat wings... There is plenty of room for more.

03-25-2003, 06:20 PM
I'm in for this one.

These will be my first flies tied on my own. I already have an idea for a crab fly that I mentioned to Roop and JimW at Jim's tying clave. We'll see if it works.

John, any insights on sites or books where I can see detailed photos of crabs so I can model mine realistically?

03-25-2003, 08:56 PM
I would love to participate. I'm afraid that none of my patterns are original (I've borrowed something with every pattern I've tied). Count me in if I can 'cheat' a little.

Broche, Everyones in so don't tyers are exempt from total original...just a little original... Doogue, I think a real good book to see crabs is the "National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Seashore Creatures"... great book in general and readily available in most bookstores.

John, I've developed a bunker pattern that seemed to work well last fall. While it is probably not totally original (I'm not terribly creative) I think it has a few unique characteristics to qualify for this swap.

Room for one more?

03-26-2003, 09:28 AM
Keep signing up... and start tying...By Sunday I will post the list of Participants.

03-26-2003, 09:28 AM
I'm in also if there's space.

03-26-2003, 11:33 AM
Please count me in.

I have an idea that I hope will qualify as at least somewhat original. Should I provide details?- ok here goes- at the risk of getting disqualified (remember, I'm an inland boy).

A saltwater spey style fly-... has it already been done?

I would like to try one but I'm not sure of which hook to use.

Striblue- will this fly? errr- fish?

03-26-2003, 12:41 PM
Yes It will Geoff... go for it... this is the "expand your Immagination" swap if you will.

Sorry if I missed it, but did the list of participants ever get posted? Just checking in to see when I should commence tying...

04-02-2003, 12:39 PM
I have not done that yet and will do so soon. Everyone who wants to participate who have signed on here should begin tying ASAP.

04-02-2003, 12:45 PM
Striblue, thanks... was just checking to see that I hadn't missed something. Only 6 flies each?

04-02-2003, 01:18 PM
Yes..but an extra for the but I will save it for the forum and some drawing later.

04-04-2003, 04:37 PM
Bump - flies are in the mail today John!

Phew, I actually got one in before the cutoff date - at least I think I did?

I settled on a clam worm design inspired by a bit of tradition and Bob Hines floating pattern. Scanners still giving me major memory problems so can't post a pic.

Gota go get packed for the trip - jibbering idiot - sure to forget something ....:eyecrazy:

04-04-2003, 04:50 PM
striblue, Im loosing track of time, an a few outher thing? when, an how meny, do you need/:confused:

04-04-2003, 07:17 PM
Yikes!!! I thought we hand until May for this swap?

04-04-2003, 07:23 PM
Yes we do .. Doogue... everyone should take extra time since it is the last of the season and will not bump up to another swap.

04-04-2003, 10:42 PM
Oh, thank god. I'm in the midst of a pre-golf season frenzy to sell about 9 Scotty Cameron Futura putters to finance one for myself + some other golf related expenses. It seems to be monopolizing my time.

The putter is awfully cool, though.

04-04-2003, 10:43 PM
By the way, my crab pattern will be dubbed "The Two-Bit Crab."

04-09-2003, 05:18 PM
Looks good the way I forgot to answer you question in the post above..but the same rules apply to this swap as the others extra.

04-27-2003, 05:22 PM
... tried to PM, but your box is full... When are the flies due, and where should I send them? I'm going to try and tie them up this evening... hope I haven't missed the "due date"...

04-27-2003, 08:40 PM
I would think by the end of May... I really need to get my act together and send out the Flat wings... I have them all ready... I will definitly send them out this week ...

04-28-2003, 09:26 AM
Oh, but I get grief...
