This new section within Destinations will focus on fishing reports, information from local fly fishing associations and stories of interest from that fly fishing Mecca.  This window to Patagonia should provide a glimpse into how a fly fishing community half way around the world deals with the common problems and concerns of fly fishers at large.  It is hoped that this forum will provide a unique way to stay in touch with matters that concern all fly fishers and that it will bring us closer to our southern friends in this ever shrinking global village of ours.

Fly Fishing Association of
Neuquen Province, Argentina

Fly Fishing Association Shows the Way
in Argentina's Patagonia Region
 The APMN's main objectives include the following:

- promote the protection of natural habitats and
  resources;

- teach and propagate fly fishing;

- spread the word about ethics and sporting behaviour;

- participate in the design of fishing regulations and
  general laws that apply to the local fauna;

- provide a physical space for debate and discussion of
  subjects for persons with an interest in preserving local
  natural resources;

- promote activities aimed at raising funds in order to
  achieve the Association's social end;

- grant educational scholarships to members;

- generate subsidies for members who carry out activities
  related to the preservation of natural resources and
  ecosystems and other beneficial activities related to fly
  fishing.

While promoting fly fishing in the Neuquen and Rio Negro provinces, the association also encourages the practice of catch and release;  condemns and exposes poaching as well as environmental degradation; and researches, keeps abreast of, and informs members and the public about other threats to fish stocks such as whirling and bubble gas disease.

We look forward to hearing more from our friends to the south.
